EECS 129a EECS Senior Design Project Fall 2007 Course Information

Description
This course involves design, implementation, and testing of a senior project. Projects will involve construction of microprocessor-based applications and programming both microprocessors and laptop computers, wireless and wireline communication, and custom hardware design. Students should expect to work in groups. Students will develop documentation for your project. Students will give oral presentations of various aspects of your projects to the TA, instructor, and, finally, to the entire EECS faculty and some industrial associates.

Lecture
There are several lectures related to contemporary issues in EECS. Lectures will be announced by email. The TA and I will meet with you regulary to discuss your project related work.
Course grade
will be based on completion of the three lab assignments, system documentation, and final project presentation. Assessment will be 35% on quality of report, 45% quality and novelty of work, 20% class participation including portions on contemporary issues.
This is the first part of a two-part course. You will design, implement, test, document, and present your projects to your TA, to me, and to all the EECS faculty for final evaluation.

Project Description - Overview, sales pitch
Functional Descsription - What it does - features and functions?
System Design - How you will construct it.
System Test Design - How you will know you built it correctly.
Cost sheet - How much will it cost to build these for production?

Projects Costs

Expect to pay some money for hardware for this course. We will form groups so you can divide the cost across the group members. You must get the hardware your TA indicates ASAP so you can start on the microprocessor exercises - the purpose of which is to understand how to program a microprocessor and its capabilities (i.e., what it can and can't do).
