HORDE

Distributed Storage System: this is middleware providing a distributed storage grid for huge glob data (specifically fMRI 4-D images). It is a smart super-peer middleware rather than pure client-server middleware. This middleware can automatically distribute the files close to the users who request the files and the data transfer speed is much faster than SRB and some other distributed file systems (e.g., NFS v4/Legion). And the middleware also has good scalability and fault tolerance. At high level we have the super computer (ES7000) for distributed rendering based on our distributed storage system. Most rendering or 4D movie processes could be done on the super server and the results (huge files) will be sent to the users transparently. This is a new project, but it has very clear significant uses for medical (particularly brain) research as well as other applications. This is currently at the idea stage.
